That Said...

Per yesterday's blurb, don't get me wrong, I enjoy economics, politics, college football, and all kinds of distractions. It is just a matter of perspective. I can not control society's economic and political activity, but I can control my own activity. Opining on the former should not get in the way of my personal responsibilities. Just a little personal reflection after getting a little too obsessed about things beyond my control.

The decisions made by those in power to affect societal change in these important areas have far ranging impacts, potentially including the relative choices, freedoms, and opportunities available to me and those I know and love. So the ramblings and rage will continue, and maybe it will help in some small degree, but I'll try to keep perspective and will be happy when comments veer to the topic of college football.

Speaking of happiness and college football, how many would rather have their team win the national championship than their candidate win political office?

It did not take me long to answer. I would prefer an FSU national title, and if they beat Florida I'll even switch my vote. That's a campaign promise I could get behind.

Principles and priorities. National titles have no bearing, if any, on my life long term. My political candidate winning the presidency has complete bearing on my life for AT LEAST the next four years. Principles and priorities, my friends. Or as Kirby (Emilio Estevez) said in "St. Elmo's Fire"--It's all about the Fluff 'n' Fold.

This is a softball - give me a football championship for the Deacs. Heck, I'd settle for a Final Four appearance.

However, neither will ever happen (Seriously, as long at the BCS is in place, Wake Forest has zero chance of ever winning a NC, no matter how good their team might be and Deacon hoops are only good at shooting themselves in the foot), I'd be happy with some gift certificates to the food court at the mall.

Under out system, no matter how much I dislike a particular candidate, there's nothing they can do that can't be undid later on. At least that's how it works in theory. But hanging a banner in the rafters of the gym, that's forever, kids...

I will take a Nole's victory over any political candidate any day. Go Noles!!!

Rosen, does your food court have an Orange Julius?

Orange Julius is so. Freaking. Good. Of course, Phipps/Lennox won't mess with the Orange Julius because they're all up in the Varsity's corner with those Frozen Orange things.

By the way, for those that love to inflict pain on themselves as much as I do, this should be fun: Duke won the National Championship last night.

10: Eval - Duke wins 2010 national championship
20: if (10 = "true") then punch self in face
30: End if
50: Goto 10

Eh, football championships are so overrated. So, yes, I would gladly see my candidates win political office and let my school devote its resources to other efforts.

And, I submitted a more serious response to your prior post.
